With a little over three weeks until the 2012 Breeders' Cup, the six automatic qualifiers were named to the World Championship's biggest event.
The Breeders' Cup Classic is one of the top thoroughbred racing events of the season. It's five million dollar purse is the richest purse in North America and attracts some of the best thoroughbreds, trainers, and owners from around the world.
Six thoroughbred's automatically qualify for the Breeders' Cup Classic by winning one of six Breeders' Cup Challenge races. These races include: Stephen Foster Handicap, Hollywood Gold Cup, Whitney Handicap, TVG Pacific Classic, Awesome Again Stakes, and TVG Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational.
Winners of these races will have their entry fees paid for the Breeders' Cup Classic and receive money towards travel expenses.
Below are the six automatic qualifiers for the 2012 Breeders' Cup Classic.
6 Breeders' Cup Classic Qualifiers
Dullahan qualified for the Breeders' Cup Classic with his win at the TVG Pacific Classic. Finishing third in the Kentucky Derby, Dullahan was one of the favorites to capture the Run for the Roses. He will look to rebound this November and capture the biggest prize of his career.
A Challenge winner at the TVG Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational, Flat Out looks poised to capture another win at this year's Classic. Plagued by injuries throughout his career, Flat Out is coming off a breakout season in 2011. Continuing the momentum in 2012, Flat Out will be a good bet in November's race.
Qualifying for the Classic with a win at the Whitney Handicap, Fort Larned has already proven himself against some of thoroughbred's toughest competition. Defeating the heavily favored Ron the Greek at Saratoga, Fort Larned is sure to be a top five favorite at this year's Classic.
Game on Dude
Game on Dude qualified for the Breeders' Cup Classic by winning the Hollywood Gold Cup. One of the eldest qualifier at five-years-old, Game on Dude has a lot of experience Santa Anita Park. His experience and hot start in 2012 make Game on Dude one of the favorite's to capture this year's Classic.
Ron the Greek
No one has had a better 2012 race season than Ron the Greek. A Challenge winner at the Stephen Foster Handicap, Ron the Greek has won or placed in each of his five races this year. He will look to continue his hot streak at Santa Anita, where he captured the Santa Anita Handicap earlier this year.
Wise Dan won two Breeders' Cup Mile Challenge races in 2012, qualifying himself for the Breeders' Cup Classic. He captured the Ben Ali Stakes by an impressive 10 1/2 lengths and set a track record in the process. At five-years old, Wise Dan looks to be in the best shape of his career going into next month's Classic.
