Breeders’ Cup Experiences’ unique Grandstand Packages include an exclusive opportunity on Saturday morning that you won’t want to miss!
Your all inclusive itinerary invites you to rise early and head to Santa Anita Park prior to the first post for breakfast with former Jockey Donna Barton Brothers and Daily Racing Form’s, Jay Privman. This pair is sure to give you some real insight into the industry, the horses and their connections – perhaps even a last minute tip that just might produce a winning ticket!
The presentation will be unique as both Donna and Jay bring their own special perspective to the conversation. Donna’s years of riding and horsemanship allow her to impart and articulate nuances about the thoroughbred horse like none other.
Donna attends numerous Breeders’ Cup prep races in person and she is a constant morning “rail bird” at tracks across the country – most notably Churchill Downs. Donna’s perspective often includes commentary about the physical changes she sees in a horse: how did the horse ship, what is the energy level of the animal, how does its coat look, what is the horses’ movement or breath telling her about how it is handling the track surface or atmospheric conditions during training that may translate to a race. Because Donna is able to examine these animals up close on a regular basis, there are often signs that indicate that a particular athlete might be peaking at just the right time.
Jay Privman lends a bit more insight and analysis of some statistical data that relates to the contenders: speed figures, patterns in workouts versus performances, models and strategies of trainers, winning owner/trainer or trainer/jockey combinations and historical references and pedigree archetypes. Jay’s knowledge of California racing is second to none and that expertise definitely gives him the home court advantage for spotting a long-shot.
Both Donna and Jay bring a similar experience in their personal lives as they are both “married to the industry.” Chatter about horseracing almost never ends even after they’ve gone home from their day jobs. Donna is married to thoroughbred trainer Frank Brothers and Jay is married to retired Hall of Fame jockey, Julie Krone. Donna and Jay live and breathe horseracing and have a passion for the industry in every aspect of their life. Their personal stories are certain to entertain and allow you to get to know them beyond their printed biographies and photographs.
There will be plenty of time allocated for you to pose your own questions, add your comments to the discussion or even challenge each expert with your own handicapping or top picks. Once they close their comments at this private breakfast, they will both join the broadcast team for NBC’s National coverage of the Breeders’ Cup Championships. This is just one component of an all exclusive weekend of racing that is certain to give you a personal experience to be remembered on this Breeders’ Cup 30th Anniversary year.
