UFC 171 logo white bgIn Dallas, UFC fans will be in for one wild ride. UFC 171 promises the crowning of a brand new welterweight champion, and with a title up for grabs you can be sure that the main event will be one for the ages!

So what can you expect on March, 15th? Not one, but two top 10 welterweight matchups, including the highly anticipated Condit vs Woodley matchup, a first non-TUF for the first ever women’s Ultimate Fighter Winner and more.

Georges St-Pierre Successor

Ever since early December, when then-welterweight champion GSP vacated his title, fans have been left wondering who will fill the gap in the welterweight division. At UFC 167, Johny Hendricks lost via split decision to St-Pierre in a match where many thought Hendricks had finally dethroned the champ.

Hendricks Lawler

Now Hendricks will face off against #3 contender, Robbie Lawler, to battle it out in the Octagon for a change to have those 12 pounds of gold strapped around their waist and the title of UFC welterweight champion!

Condit vs. Woodley: A Total Knockout

#2 ranked welterweight contender Carlos Condit is coming off a recent KO/TKO round 4 victory over Martin Kampmann and looking to secure a second victory over #10 Tyron Woodley. Woodley who clocked a round 1 KO/TKO against Josh Koscheck at UFC 167 will also be looking for that second win.

Condit Woodley

For Condit this win will likely get him another shot at the welterweight title after dropping losses to both GSP and Hendricks. For Woodley, much is on the line, as the less experienced, though equally as impressive fighter would like to go on a title hunt. Something a win at UFC 171 would no doubt secure.

A Future Face off against Trujillo?

At UFC 169 one of the most impressive matchups of the night came as Abel Trujillo KO’d Jamie Varner. Trujillo will likely face the winner of UFC 171’s Diego Sanchez vs Myles Jury matchup.

#15 ranked lightweight Diego Sanchez will look to break into the top 10 with a victory over Jury. Sanchez’s last matchup ended with a disappointing loss by UD to Gilbert Melendez. The undefeated Jury (13-0 overall; 4-0 UFC) is looking to prove that he should be ranked in this competitive division. This will be one of the surprise fights of the evening as these men both have something to prove.

More Highlights

UFC 171 will also feature a light heavyweight bout between Ovince Saint Preux and Nikita ‘Al Capone’ Krylov, who is stepping in after Thiago Silva was removed from the matchup. OSP is riding a three fight win streak and Kyrlov will be moving down from heavyweight where he recently KO’d Walt Harris. Weigh-ins the night before should prove very interesting in terms of Kyrlov’s ability to make weight.

A preliminary bout between Jessica Andrade and Raquel Pennington is now set to take place as Julianna Peña is out due to injury. Pennington (4-3) is coming off a win over Roxanne Modafferi at the TUF 18 Finale. The fight was her UFC debut. Andrade (10-3) earned her first UFC win with a decision victory over Rosi Sexton at UFC Fight Night 30 last October. Both fighters are ranked in the top 15 and look to move up in a competitive women’s division.
