In September 2013, it was announced the city of Toronto, home of the Raptors, would host the 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend. The game will mark the first time the NBA All-Star Weekend has ever been hosted outside of the United States.

Drake has been a significant part of the Raptors' rebranding as the Air Canada Centre prepare to host the biggest sports party of 2016.

The Toronto Raptors have worked to revamp all sides of their team and brand.

The NBA All-Star Weekend is always known for mixing music, entertainment, and of course, basketball into the festivities, but at a press conference back in 2013, Drake and the president of the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment expressed ideas to expand the traditional weekend to include all facets of entertainment, including possibly fashion.

Another Toronto native, Justin Bieber, has been in talks to help host the huge event.

Toronto: A Perfect Host City

The city of Toronto has a thriving music scene, as well as lots of nightclubs, breweries and delicious restaurants. With over 2.5 million people, it is one of Canada’s biggest cities.

There's even an official Entertainment District chock-full of clubs and dance floors, most famously The Guvernment and the Aria Entertainment Complex, which includes four different-themed clubs.

The Toronto Eaton Centre has everything from name brands to more low-key designers. You can head to the St. Lawrence Market and check out antiques before finding one of Toronto’s many independent bookstores scattered throughout the city.

While the city is heavy on sports, it is also rich in culture. The Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre is a two-story theatre complex with lots of year-round offerings. Toronto also has some local theatres, including the Buddies in Bad Times Theatre which features more experimental shows.

Toronto has its own Distillery District, which at one time featured the largest distillery in the world. Now, the area is home to a number of historical and aesthetically-pleasing buildings, restaurants and shops.

Kensington Market is another place you have to stop at when visiting the bustling Toronto. A hipster haven, it is full of vintage-y stores, record shops, speakeasys, cafes, and bookstores.

Although the Toronto has never hosted the NBA All-Star Weekend before, the city is definitely up for the challenge.
