With constant passing, positions changing consistently and more speed than you could imagine, the 2015 Qatar Grand Prix was a perfect season opener for the 2015 MotoGP™ season.

Number One

Valentino Rossi was the winner of the first MotoGP™ grand prix of the season at Qatar. The nine-time world champion took fans back to a time when he dominated the MotoGP™, as he put on an incredible performance at the Losail International Circuit for the Qatar Grand Prix.

Rossi began from the eighth position on the starting grid, but he bided his time to catch up to the leaders: Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo and Ducati’s Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso. With only 14 laps left, Rossi was gaining.

The true competition began when Rossi and Ducati Team GP15’s Dovizioso battled it out with only three laps left. After constant passing between the two, it was Rossi who eventually came out on top when the Dovizioso took too wide of a turn, leaving room for Rossi to make a move.

It was Rossi’s final lap which sealed the deal. With a few great moves, Rossi was able to edge past Dovizioso when he opened a large gap between the two and laid on the speed.

Other Podium Finishers

Although Rossi prevailed, Lorenzo led through the majority of the grand prix. He eventually lost his edge and began to drop off in the closing laps. Rossi’s teammate was still able to pull off a very respectable fourth place finish.  Ducati’s Iannone finished in third, marking his first third place victory in the premier class. All in all, it was an exciting day for the climbing Ducati team.

Marquez Still Making Moves

Maruquez-MotoGP-Moto-VIP-VillageOne surprising moment occurred in the 22nd lap, when two-time world champion, Marc Marquez, came off the track and was in last place for a period time. In typical, impressive Marquez fashion, however, he was able to work his way up and finish the race in fifth place.

Honda Repsol rider and Marquez teammate, Dani Pedrosa, finished in the top six just in front of seventh place winner Cal Crutchlow of CWM LCR Honda and Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith rounding it out in eighth place.

A Great Day of MotoGP™  Racing

Rossi’s win was victorious, not just because it was it his first season-opening win since 2010, but because he was able to push past his eighth level pole position.

With the surprising comeback of Rossi from his lower starting position to the drama with the still strategic Marquez, it was a great day for MotoGP™ riders and an even better one for MotoGP™ fans.
