Wow. What a brilliant MotoGP™ race.

Are you really that shocked that Marc Marquez won his seventh consecutive victory this weekend at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya? He only achieved it after resisting huge pressure from not only teammate Dani Pedrosa, but the Yamahas of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo.

Marquez crossed the finish line only half a second in front of Rossi, but he also escaped a late scare when Pedrosa touched his rear wheel in the final lap causing him to almost crash and having to settle for third.

catalunya_recap3Rossi lead majority of the race with the Honda duo relentlessly chasing him, that is until Marquez pulled ahead with fewer than five laps to go. Jorge Lorenzo followed the front three throughout the race, but was never quite close enough to join the podium fight. He eventually crossed the finishing line 2.7 seconds behind Pedrosa.

According to MotoGP.com, “The win is the 100th for Honda in the modern MotoGP™ four-stroke era and the triumph for Marquez was also historic as it came on the same day as an earlier Moto3™ victory for his brother Alex Marquez – the first time 65 years of World Championship competition that siblings have won Grand Prix races on the same day.”

Marquez has extended his points tally to a perfect 175 while Rossi stayed second at 117 points after passing Pedrosa on the final lap. Pedrosa is third in the standings at 112 points, but was highly disappointed to have lost second place when victory was within reach.

The Naughty and Nice Netherlands

The last two races have been closer than ever and on June 28, MotoGP will head to the famous Assen track in the Netherlands. Marquez may not be able to pull off another win, or will he? This past Sunday was a mind-blowing battle between four men who never gave up until their rear tire hit the finish line –just what we hoped for!
