Let's Recap: the 2014 Aragon Grand Prix
Jorge Lorenzo found himself victorious at Aragon this weekend after an action-packed battle against Honda duo, Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez. Pedrosa took the lead early and held it into Turn 1, but Andrea Iannone surpassed the Honda rider by Turn 2. Before Iannone could settle in the lead, Marquez applied pressure in all the right places causing Iannone to ride wide off of the track.
Marquez then powered to the front of the pack and began to set the pace for the other riders. Finding himself behind Lorenzo and Marquez with Iannone now off his back, Pedrosa was able to turn on the afterburners and proceeded to set the fastest lap time of the race!
However, despite setting a lap record, Pedrosa fumbled to find his groove and was overtaken by Valentino Rossi. Rossi then ran wide on lap four allowing Pedrosa to return to third place.
By lap nine, Lorenzo overtook Marquez for the lead, but Marquez was relentless riding wheel-to-wheel with the Yamaha rider. The Honda rider finally managed to regain the lead by lap 12. Then, Pedrosa also managed to surpass Lorenzo and the two Honda teammates began to fight it out for the lead.
Heading into Turn 1, Pedrosa pushed too hard to pass Marquez and crashed into the turn. Marquez found himself alone up front, but in an unfortunate situation as he had not pitted during the race thus far. The rain continued to plummet down with only a few laps left and the Spaniard was hurting without a pit. This caused him to go down in Turn 2, allowing Lorenzo to take the lead with two laps left.
The Yamaha rider finished the final laps of the Aragon Grand Prix effortlessly and secured the victory! This marked Lorenzo's first victory of the 2014 season and it has granted him a decent jump in the standings. Marquez still holds a comfortable lead in the standings for Team Honda, but the gaps between Pedrosa, Rossi and Lorenzo are narrowing by the race!
