f you’ve been keeping up with the MotoGP™ Championship race series, you would know that the next race is a big one. Not only is it the final series race to be hosted in the United States this year, but it is kicking off the second half of the series at one of the most well-known tracks in racing!
About the venue
The Red Bull Indianapolis GP is held at the world’s largest sporting spectator facility, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which also hosts the annual Indianapolis 500 (IZOD IndyCar Series) and Brickyard 400 (NASCAR Sprint Cup Series) races. The MotoGP™ series race is the only race of these three major races to use the entire 16-turn, 2.621-mile track, making for a much more challenging and exciting race for the drivers and the fans.
The MotoGP™ race itself is the main event, but there are several other appealing factors to the race weekend that pull fans in, including Motorcycles on the Meridian and the legendary Indy Mile.
Motorcycles on the Meridian is an event that was started in 2008, where motorcyclists of all kinds gather in downtown Indianapolis to showcase their steel and enjoy the presence the other race and motorcycle fans, whether they have their own bike or not.
On August 17th, fans will gather for another highly-anticipated event – the Indy Mile. This race is the “Crown Jewel” of the Flat Track Grand National series, which is AMA Pro Racing's oldest and most tradition-rich racing series. Both of these events keep race fans on their toes throughout the action-packed weekend of MotoGP practice qualifying rounds and championship races.
Anything can happen in this sport, which is what makes it so exciting to see live. Many top racers are put to the test in the finals of every series race thanks to racers like Marquez’s fellow Repsol Honda teammate Valentino Rossi, Spanish driver Dani Pedrosa and USA’s Nicky Hayden, who jumped up in the top 8 of the United States Grand Prix finals, after falling to the same competitors in the qualifying races.
The Main Attraction
The events surrounding the Red Bull Indianapolis GP race are a huge attraction, but the MotoGP™ race and its insanely talented drivers are what the fans travel year after year to see. Whether it is the record-breaking, history-making, Spanish-driver, Marc Marquez, who is currently in the lead, or the pole-stealing, up-and-coming German-driver, Stefan Bradl.
