This year in the MotoGP™ race series, the competition has been tighter than ever and the best riders in the world have been jumping in and out of the Top 10. Not only does it change drastically from race to race, but from each race’s practices to qualifying rounds, and qualifying rounds to the finals! A mix of bike troubles, injuries, underdogs and unstoppable passes have made it impossible to guess what the results of any race will be.

The Fab Five
The only consistency race after race is what I like to call the Fab Five of MotoGP™ this year. They may not be consistent in what place they get in each race, but they’re consistent in the way that they rack-up the points to keep them in the top race after race. The Fab Five consists of three Spanish drivers, including teammates Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa in first and second and Jorge Lorenzo in third. Fourth and fifth place in the series are currently taken by Italian driver Valentino Rossi and English driver Cal Crutchlow.

These five are all within a 61-point range, starting with Marquez at 188 after his last championship win in Indianapolis and ending with Crutchlow at 127. All other drivers in the series have yet to hit 100 or score a championship win to their names.

Driver Standings

These drivers are not the only powerhouses, but three team manufacturers have shown their dominance in the sport as well – Repsol Honda Team, Yamaha Factory Racing and Monster Yamaha Tech 3. The Repsol Honda team stays on top with the No. 1 and 2 drivers representing its name, while Yamaha Factory Racing comes in right behind them with the current No. 3 and 4 racers. Monster Yamaha Tech 3 has also shown authority in the series with both of its drivers in the Top 10, including Crutchlow in the No. 5 spot.

Czech Republic Grand Prix
Let’s see what the teams and drivers are up to today, going into this weekend’s Czech Republic Grand Prix at the Automotodrum Brno.

These drivers are the top five in the entire series, and as of today, are of the top six in the practice rounds going into this weekend’s race. Wonder why I say six? Because German LCR Honda MotoGP™ driver, Stefan Brandl, stole the show from the Fab Five with a first-place finish in the final practice round with a time of 1:56.500. (.38 seconds in front of Marquez).
