I scream, you scream, we all scream for... dunks? It’s the truth; NBA fans love their dunks, and what’s not to love? Watching players throw it down is so popular, in fact, that the league created the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, which has quickly become one of the most popular events during NBA All-Star Weekend.

Up for debate is whether dunking is more fun during a game, or just seeing it on its own as in the Dunk Contest. We think they’re both equally as impressive and exciting, and the Sunday night NBA All-Star Game has no shortage of dunks!

With so many great dunks from all the years of games gone past it would be impossible to narrow them down to a top 10 or even a top 20, so instead, we’re bringing you the Best Dunks from the 2013 NBA All-Star Game.

Fun Facts

  • The very official Wikipedia definition of a slam dunk is: “a type of basketball shot that is performed when a player jumps in the air and manually powers the ball downward through the basket with one or both hands over the rim.” Manually powers the ball downward… that sounds about right!
  • Slam dunks were originally known as dunk shots, until “slam dunk” was coined by Lakers announcer Chick Hearn.
  • LeBron James had the most postseason dunks during the 2012-2013 season with 28, and Tyson Chandler had the second most dunks with 19.
  • Slam dunks are high percentage field goals, which perhaps explains why it’s amusing to fans when they are missed. For example:

Best Dunks - All-Star Game 2013

The 2013 NBA All-Star Game was basically one giant dunk fest. It seemed like barely 2 plays would elapse before someone threw it down and we loved it. Here are the best dunks from last year’s game:

1.     LeBron James

Since he was drafted fans have been clamoring for LeBron James to participate in the Slam Dunk Contest. We’ve seen glimpses in his pre-game workout and game play, and we’re certain he would shatter the earth if he ever competed. (Yes, that’s a good thing) Since we have no way of telling if James will ever actually participate in the contest, the next best thing is watching him throw it down amongst the best of the best at the NBA All-Star Game!
To open our list (and the 2013 All-Star Game) James threw it down twice with feeds from Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony:

2.     Blake Griffin

…with the assist to himself. The 2012 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest winner showcased his chops with this monster dunk off the glass:

3.     Kevin Durant

Not only was this a great dunk by KD (who threw it down at least 4 times in last year’s game), it was all sparked from a block on James by Kobe Bryant. Check out the entire play with the block and dunk that follows:
