As THE pinnacle event in football, all eyes will be upon MetLife Stadium come February, 2nd for the 2014 Super Bowl. Just as with any major event, fans lucky enough to be in attendance will want to look their best!
The league’s first ever open-stadium, cold-weather Super Bowl will prove to be a challenge not just for players battling it out on the field, but for fashionistas who want to look great while staying warm.
Here are some tips for what you can wear at Super Bowl 2014 to stay fashionable and comfortable.
1. Stay Warm
Unlike games past, the 2014 Super Bowl will be chilly to say the least. Currently, it is predicted to be 36 degrees with a 30% chance of snow, and no one stands a chance of looking great if they’re shaking like a leaf from being cold. So our advice: dress warmly. But don’t fret, being warm doesn’t mean covering yourself in a head to toe heather grey sweat suit (unless of course that’s your thing, then by all means!).
Sweaters or hoodies are great and will do the trick, but you’re not limited to just that! Consider layering different and unique patterns and textures, a striped long sleeved shirt under a chambray button down, or a puffy vest with a fleece lined hood and fur accents over your basic sweater will really make your outfit, AND keep you warm.
Similarly, invest in some leggings to wear under jeans, fleeced lined leggings or go for fleece lined jeans altogether (they do exist!). You can get these in a variety of colors and cuts to make your outfit stand out.
Accessories can really make or break an outfit and in the case of Super Bowl 2014, they’re a necessity.
- Leg warmers
- BONUS: Sunglasses—if it does snow, these will keep the snowflakes and glare out of your eyes.
If these items weren’t on your outfit check list they are now. Not only can a cute hat save you from spending hours on your hair, but it’ll keep you warm and cozy during this frigid game. There are so many different kinds of hats: ushankas, beanies, bowlers, hats that make you look like you have bunny ears, etc.—just have fun with it!
Similarly, a thick scarf will not only complete your outfit but keep you toasty. Gloves or mittens are a given, unless you don’t like fingers OR plan on holding a cup of hot chocolate the entire game. Boots or booties, are practical, can be dressed up and will keep your toes from falling off!
Winter accessories have really come a long way and you can get all of the above accessories in a variety of colors, styles and materials. Speaking of colors…
3. Show Your Team Spirit
Team and NFL stores are chock-full of team branded gear. So just because you’re unable to go to the 2014 Super Bowl with letter painted on your bare stomach doesn’t mean you can’t show your team spirit!
Invest in your team’s hoodie, a great scarf, gloves, a hat, jacket or even a pair of boots (yes, they have these and they are SO cute!). Or if your team didn’t make it to the big game, and you’re attending just to be part of history, use the full rainbow of colors to make a statement and make yourself stand out at the game.
