You know the old saying, the best way to get over an old love, is to start dating someone new? Well, for fans still reeling from UFC 168 we would like to introduce that someone new: UFC 169.
Renan Barao vs. Urijah Faber
This Bantamweight Championship bout was originally scheduled to take place between Dominic Cruz and Barao. However, when Cruz suffered yet another injury he vacated the title and cleared the way for his nemesis Faber.
Now, it will be Faber, riding his 4-match win streak, facing Barao for a shot at the bantamweight title! As if this matchup needed any more excitement the two had previously met at UFC 149 where Barao emerged as the victor via unanimous decision. Will Faber avenge his loss and finally win a title; will Barao extend his win streak? You’ll just have to be there to find out! Go to UFC 169 >>
Jose Aldo vs. Ricardo Lamas
If one title matchup wasn’t enough, UFC 169 brings you a second: the men’s Featherweight Championship. Aldo is the only 145-pound champion in UFC history and is riding an amazing 16-fight winning streak. He is currently ranked as the #1 featherweight by the UFC with a 23-1 record. Lamas is ranked as the #3 featherweight by UFC and has an impressive record of 13-2.
Frank Mir vs. Alistair Overeem
This heavyweight fight will matchup two top 10 fighters, in the Octagon. Mir, ranked #10 with a 16-8 record looks to take on the #8 ranked Overeem, whose record stands at 36-13, 1NC. Mir and Overeem are both looking to get the victory after coming off a combined 5-match losing streak. Mir recently lost to UFC fighter Josh Barnett, and Overeem recently lost to the UFC 168 Knockout of the Night winner Travis Browne.
John Lineker vs. Ali Bagautinov
The February 1st main card will feature yet another top 10 face off. This time it will have the 23-6 Lineker up against the 12-2 Bagautinov. Both are riding win streaks in a competitive flyweight division. UFC 169 fans will be in for a treat as they get to witness one fighter keep his win streak alive!
Jamie Varner vs. Abel Trujillo
Varner 21-8-1 was on a 4-1 run prior to losing a split decision at UFC 164. Trujillo is coming off a Round 2 knockout victory and has a 11-5 record. This matchup should start UFC 169 off with a bang when these lightweight fighters meet in the Octagon.
