Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014 Announced!

After careful consideration the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Selection committee narrowed the field of 17 finalists to choose seven players who will be inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame!

The committee of 46 voters has selected these players from an initial group of 126 nominees, and the seven who were selected have received 80% of the vote, to make up the 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class.

Here’s a closer look at the seven players being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014 and some fun facts about each:

Derrick Brooks

[LB, ’95-08, Tampa Bay Buccaneers]

  • 1995 Draft: Selected 28th overall
  • Never missed a game during his 14-season career with the Buccaneers
  • Six-time All-Pro selection, 11 Pro-Bowl selections 
  • Member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 2000s
  • NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2002
  • Super Bowl XXXVII champion

Ray Guy

[Punter, ’73-89 Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders]

  • First punter to ever be selected in the first round of the Draft (1973, 23rd overall)
  • First full-time punter to earn a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame
  • All-Pro six straight seasons, played in seven Pro Bowls
  • Super Bowl XI, XV and XVIII champion
  • First punter to hit Louisiana Superdome scoreboard

Claude Humphrey

[DE, ’68-78 Atlanta Falcons, ’79-87 Philadelphia Eagles]

  • 1968 Draft: Selected 3rd overall
  • NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, 1968
  • 122 QB sacks
  • Named first-team All-Pro five times, in total six Pro Bowl nominations
  • 122 career sacks

Walter Jones

[Tackle, ’97-08 Seattle Seahawks]

  • 1997 Draft: 6th overall
  • First offensive lineman in Seahawks history to be elected to Pro Bowl
  • Voted to nine Pro Bowls, six time All-Pro
  • NFL All-Decade Team of the 2000s

Andre Reed

[WR, ’85-99 Buffalo Bills, 2000 Washington Redskins]

  • 1985 Draft: selected 86th overall- 4th round
  • Caught 951 passes for 13,198 yards and 87 touchdowns
  • 941 passes, 13,095 reception yards, 15 catches in a game and 36 games with 100-plus receiving yards are still a Bills’ Record
  • Caught 50 or more passes in 13 seasons which ranked second at the time of his retirement
  • Selected to play in seven consecutive Pro-Bowls

Michael Strahan

[DE, ’93-07 New York Giants]

  • 1993 Draft: 40th player over
  • Five time All-Pro pick, voted to seven Pro Bowls
  • 141.5 sacks in 15-seasons with Giants
  • 38 multi-sack games
  • Had 6 double-digit sack totals in a nine-season span
  • Holds NFL single-season record 22.5 sacks achieved in 2001
  • Named unanimous NFL Defensive Player of the year in 2001
  • NFL All-Decade Team of the 2000s

Aeneas Williams

[CB/Safety, ’91-00 Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals, ’01-04 St Louis Rams]

  • 1991 Draft: 59th player over
  • Voted to eight Pro Bowls (earning seven as a cornerback, and one as a safety), four time All-Pro
  • Named to NFL’s All-Decade Team 1990s
  • Intercepted 55 passes for 807 yards and 9 touchdowns during 14-season career
  • Shares NFL record for longest fumble return (104 yards for a TD)
