With the most recent success of NFL’s first cold-weather Super Bowl, college officials are not ruling out the possibility of playing a College Football National Championship in a cold weather location.

Because the locations are already set for the next three seasons, the earliest that a cold weather outdoor stadium could host the College Football National Championship would be 2018. However, the bidding could very well take place at some point this year.

Orlando’s Citrus Bowl, Miami’s Sun Life Stadium, San Francisco’s Levi’s Stadium, San Antonio’s Alamodome and Jacksonville’s EverBank Field are all warm-weather locations that are in the running.

The new Vikings Stadium, currently under construction, is also in consideration. However, even though it is located in Minneapolis, it’s a covered stadium. Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Gillette Stadium in New England, Soldier Field in Chicago and Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia are other cold weather sites under consideration with only the Lucas Oil Stadium being indoors.

The biggest factor to consider when selecting the site for the College Football National Championship game is ensuring no location conflicts with the NFL and its teams.

What do you think about the idea of a cold weather College Football National Championship? What stadium do you think would be a prime location for this title game?
