At UFC 171 Dennis Bermudez and Myles Jury got decisive victories to extend their UFC win streaks. Both fighters improved to five and four consecutive wins respectively, which got us to thinking, what other fighters have win streaks?
After a little research, we discovered that there are several fighters with impressive win streaks in UFC history (from the time they first began fighting in the UFC--not including prior MMA records), and some who are in the midst of long and remarkable current streaks. Any guesses on who they are?
Read on to learn more about these streaks, how they ended, and who’s fighting next to extend their incredible undefeated runs.
The Longest UFC Win Streaks, Ever.
The honor of the longest streak goes to recently injured Anderson Silva. The Spider enjoyed an undefeated streak that included 16 wins and 10 title defenses. At UFC 166 he suffered his first loss as UFC Middleweight Champion at the hands (right hand specifically) of now champion and current seven-win streak holder, Chris Weidman.
Do you think Weidman will continue his streak against Lyoto Machida at UFC 173 in Las Vegas?
Also on the list is GSP, whose 12-match winning streak was put on hold when the then-welterweight champ announced he was taking a break from the UFC.
One of the earliest win streaks in UFC history belongs to Royce Gracie. Gracie enjoyed 8 wins from 1993 to 1994 before his corner threw in the towel at the start of his match against Harold Howard.
Another notable streak is JDS with his 9 wins spanning 2010-2012. He looks to reignite his streak of wins as he faces off against Stipe Miocic at UFC 173 in Las Vegas over Memorial Day Weekend.
The Longest Current UFC Win Streaks
One of the current win streaks that really stands out is light heavyweight champ Jon “Bones” Jones’ 10 wins. Bones has been undefeated since 2010, that’s almost 4 years! The pound for pound best fighter in the UFC will take on a 4-win streak and #3 contender Glover Teixeira.
Who do you think will see their win streak continue and who’s will end?
It’s interesting to note that many of the fighters on the list who are enjoying long win streaks (Renan Barao, Jose Aldo, Weidman, Pettis and Jones) are all champions! This bodes well for contenders who may be lower down on the list—will we see any new champions from this crop of undefeated fighters?
