For anyone who thought this UFC-first, 10-fight card would disappoint, boy, were they in for a pleasant surprise. From the undercard to the main event, fans who packed into the Baltimore Arena and those who watched at home were delivered a phenomenal UFC® 172 fight night

In a card that kicked-off with two incredible KO’s and ended with two dominating Unanimous Decisions victories, fans were treated to an MMA spectacle by these 20 fighters. That said, without further ado let’s recap an amazing weekend in Baltimore.

Friday’s UFC 172 Pre-Events

After arriving to BWI airport, UFC VIP Experience team members headed straight for Baltimore Arena to catch all the Friday action. First up was a Q and A session with MMA legend and UFC® Hall of Famer, former champ Chuck “Iceman” Liddell!

Fighter Q and A

At the arena there was already a line forming around the building at 12:30 to get in, but our UFC VIP Experience guests weren’t in that line, as they came in through their dedicated entrance and were escorted to their reserved seats right in front of the stage with prime viewing for both the Q and A, as well as the Fighter Weigh-ins. Liddell arrived on stage amid an uproar of cheers and answered question after question. He fielded everything from what it’s like being the champ and defending a title, to fighting in a strip club and his favorite color and kale recipe.

Behind-the-Scenes

Once the Q and A session was over our VIP guests were whisked away on an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour. Their glimpse ‘behind the curtain,’ so to speak, allowed them to see what it was like setting up the Octagon. And while snapping pictures and taking in the sights, they got to meet with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Urijah Faber and Glover Teixeira (who fought the champ later that night)!

Fighter Weigh-Ins

While it was hard to break away from these friendly fighters, it was time to head back to their reserved seats for the Official UFC® 172 weigh-ins. Starting with the undercard, each fighter came out and got down to the bare essentials to make weight. Every fighter was able to come in at the designated weight and there were no hiccups at the weigh-in. Our VIPs and fans alike were cheering for their favorites, and the anticipation built as fighters stared each other down during fighter stand-offs.

Saturday: UFC® 172 FIGHT DAY

After the weigh-ins guests left to attend to their own devices and explore Baltimore’s beautiful city (and in some cases rest up for the all of the action on Saturday!).

Octagon Tour

First up was a tour of the Octagon. Guests gathered around the impressive Octagon to snap pictures and take in the sound check and rehearsal. Then it was shoes off and into the Octagon we all went!Typical of big UFC events, a crowd was gathering outside to attend the UFC’s tailgate and to wait in line to meet various fighters. VIP guests were able to enter the arena two hours before the general public, and with everything planned for them, they needed the extra two hours!

Some guests put their friends into different submission holds, tested the spring mat and posed for pictures with an actual UFC® Championship Belt (inside the Octagon!). After getting their fill, it was back to an exclusive VIP Hospitality venue to party before the main card began.

UFC VIP Hospitality Party Venue

Once back, guests sampled gourmet food from a menu that included local crab cakes, fruit skewers, hummus platters, a dessert bar and more; then took full advantage of the top shelf open bar.

After going back for seconds and thirds (and I'm sure fourths and fifths), guests were able to take pictures once again inside the venue while holding the Official UFC Championship belt, with each other and enjoy the amenities of this secure and exclusive party.

Before long our first fighter host had arrived. Cub Swanson was in the building! Swanson posed for pictures, signed autographs and chatted with guests. Guests were also treated to an unexpected surprise as Cowboy Cerrone stopped by the party venue to hang with guests and sample some of the gourmet food and beverage options himself!

Later, guests were able to meet Jake Ellenberger, Octagon Girl, Arianny Celeste, and UFC personality, Kenda Perez. Our second host followed shortly after, and before our VIPs knew what was happening, Chuck Liddell entered the party! The Iceman surveyed the food buffets as well before settling into take pictures and sign autographs. He stayed back to catch a few of the fights as well.

Before long it was time for the main card and our guests made their way to some of the best seats in the arena.

UFC® 172 Fight Recap

UFC® 172 started off with a bang as Beal wow’d MMA fans (and Patrick Williams) with a round two flying knee that left Williams dazed on the mat. Similarly Castillo was able to connect with a heavy right hand to Brenneman that put him to sleep.

The only women’s match of the night went the distance as Correia battled Duke and left UFC® 172 with a victory.

Gomi and Vallie-Flagg rightfully earned Fight of the Night honors as their three-round battle kept fans on the edge of their seat. Gomi took control in rounds two and three, leaving a bloodied Vallie-Flagg with his fifth loss.

Benavidez closed the prelims with an impressive guillotine, but it was not the last of the night. Jim Miller and Max Holloway were able to end their matches with guillotines. Medeiros passed out whilst being submitted while Fili tapped in round three to award Holloway his victory.

Rockhold’s early round one submission was a beautiful display of grappling as he got the win over Boetsch in dominating fashion.

The surprise of the night came as Anthony “Rumble” Johnson dominated Phil Davis. Prior to UFC® 172 fight night, many expected Davis to walk away with a hard fought victory, employing his superior wrestling skills. Instead it was the Rumble show as he dominated Mr. Wonderful, stuffing every single takedown that the #4 ranked light heavyweight threw his way and walking away with an impressive victory at 205 lbs.

Next up was the main event. Bruce Buffer’s “IT’S TIME!” got everyone hyped for this highly anticipated matchup and then they were off. While many expected Teixeira to be the champ’s biggest test, it was an amazing display by Bones Jones.

Jones threw a variety of shots Teixiera’s way using elbows in a way that made most of us scared to even look at another elbow again. In the end both men lasted for five-rounds and the champ continued his undefeated streak and title defense. Unfortunately for Teixeira his 20-fight win streak was ended, but his endurance and tenacity to finish the fight were commendable.

What did you think of UFC® 172? Which was your favorite fight? Did you agree with all of the decisions? Who would you like to see Jones fight next? Which was the most impressive guillotine in your opinion? Share your comments below!

Thank you Baltimore for being a wonderful host city and to all 20 fighters for making UFC® 172 one of the best cards of the year thus far! Next up:
