There’s something special about a UFC® fighter’s nickname, it’s almost like a super hero’s alias. Like Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Catwoman or other famous super humans, when fighters come to the ring and famous announcer Bruce Buffer screams it into the microphones, UFC fans everywhere can’t help but cheer a little louder.
Some of these names are extremely well known and passed down by trainers or other fighters, while others are more personal and passed on by fighters’ loved ones. We compiled a list of UFC fighters and these nicknames and have them ranked by our favorites.
There’s nothing funny about these fighters (except of course these nicknames). These are some of the winningest men and women to ever enter the Octagon™, but their nicknames made me giggle just a bit. How about you?
Andre “Touchy” Fili
Fili’s other name is “The Fury” which is certainly more intimidating than Touchy, but with a last name like Fili, we like where his head was at with this choice. Fili is currently 13-2-0. Suffering a recent loss at the hands of Max Holloway at UFC® 172, we can’t wait to see what Fili does in the UFC next.
“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey
Rousey is as fierce while fighting as she is nice while outside of the Octagon (in our experience!). While this name is certainly fitting for the dominant woman’s champ, the alliteration combined with the image that Rowdy conjures made it on our list as one of the funniest. Rousey is currently 9-0-0 in the UFC and will face Alexis Davis this summer at UFC® 175.
Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson
The flyweight champ is not someone to take lightly, as his dominance in his division has shown. However, after adopting the nickname of his favorite character and often being likened to a mouse because of his larger ears, this is another nickname that makes us smile. Johnson will defend his title in Canada early this summer at UFC® 174 against Ali Bagautinov.
Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama
Akiyama amassed a 13-5-0, 2NC record as an MMA fighter, and of course this wonderful nickname. Not sure we need an explanation for this one!
Urijah “The California Kid” Faber
This bantamweight fighter exudes California calm, and is just a laid back guy! Faber is 30-7-0 and suffered a loss earlier this year at the hands of Renan Barao (fighting at UFC® 173 next)!
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic
Literally standing for Croatian Cop, it doesn’t get any more fitting than this! Known for his insane head kicks, Filipovic is the proud owner of another UFC® nickname that just fits!
Anderson “The Spider” Silva
One of the greatest MMA fighters of our generation, The Spider has one of the most fitting names as his style of patiently waiting and attaching his opponent has landed him one of the most winning records in UFC® history.
Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell
At UFC® 172 Liddell shared the story of being dubbed The Iceman by his trainer. That said, anyone who’s a fan of this Hall of Famer knows he fights like he has ice in his veins.
Let’s face it, these men and women can be pretty terrifying. With their focus and intensity to win, coupled with years and years of MMA training, these are the scariest nicknames in the UFC®.
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
Known for almost literally rampaging through the Octagon® Jackson’s name is both fitting and terrifying.
Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson
With an 16-2 record, including 10 victories via KO/TKO Gustafsson is the number one contender for a reason.
Carlos “The Natural Born Killer” Condit
Condit suffered a torn ACL at UFC® 171 in Dallas and will be out of fighting for a while, but The Natural Born Killer has certainly earned the nickname.
Ken “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” Shamrock
No. Explanation. Needed.
