The ceremonies are complete. The stories have been told. The laughter has been shared and the tears have been shed. The Class of 2014 is now officially enshrined into the
Pro Football Hall of Fame!
Let's wait a moment for that to sink in. Michael Strahan, Andre Reed, Claude Humphrey, Ray Guy, Aeneas Williams, Derrick Brooks, and Walter Jones have all reached football heaven. They competed in the big leagues, made their mark in the NFL, and even though their records and acollades might one day be met by an upcoming star, their names will always live on with the one record that can never be beat. The Hall of Fame.
It was a big day, folks, full of emotions and excitement for the enshrinees and for the fans. Take a peek inside the Enshrinement Ceremony experience for a recap of last night's events!
There isn't any Party like an NFL Tailgate Party!
For NFL On Location guests, the day started out a little dreary. The rain was pouring down and we'd be lying if we said we weren't a little concerned the Ohio elements might place a delay on the day's events. However, by the time the tailgates were kicking-off, the rain had turned into a slight drizzle before disappearing altogether.
So promptly at 3:30 p.m., the NFL On Location shuttles were loaded up with excited fans and everyone was transported over to the Pro Football Hall of Fame! Once on site, guests headed in different directions.
Platinum Plus, Platinum and Gold level packages headed up the hill towards the VIP Legends Club, and Bronze level guests made their way to the Enshrinement Celebration Fan Party.
Let's Talk Legends Club
The Legends Club truly offered fans an incomparable experience. There was a large premium open bar located right in the middle of the tent with extravagant buffet tables all around the borders. Located in one corner of the room was our DJ laying down the hottest tracks, getting the dancing started and spitting out facts about the Hall of Famers to get the guests excited.
In the back of the tent sat four chairs with a Pro Football Hall of Fame backdrop behind them telling our guests something big was coming. And something big as coming, as in four Pro Football Hall of Famers!
Oh yes, that's right! Joe DeLamielleure, Jack Youngblood, Dermontti Dawson, and Floyd Little all came to hangout in the Legends Club and meet their fans! With the Legends Club providing memorabilia for the empty handed fans and other fans bringing their own sentimental items such as jerseys, footballs and helmets, everyone inside was able to get an autograph, a picture and take a moment to chat with these great men.
Time was flying and before we all knew it, it was time to send the NFL On Location VIPs over to Fawcett Stadium for the Red Carpet Walk.
You Never Know Who You Will See on the Red Carpet
The above fact has never been more true. Guests lined up outside the VIP entrance of Fawcett Stadium as the busses pulled up. Anyone and everyone was inside! From past Pro Football Hall of Famers to Kelly Rippa to current NFL players, these busses were packed out with stars!
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and host Rich Eisen even walked the carpet! Guests were able to speak to them as they walked they walked by, shake their hands and get some unbeatable photo opportunities.
Then, once the National Anthem was played, it was time for the VIPs to take their seats on the ground level of Fawcett Stadium (that's right, the SAME level as the stage!) to see the Class of 2014 walk the inner Red Carpet all the way up to the stage.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony
NFL On Location's VIP seating was located about at about half field, and you'd never guess who was literally right in front of our first row of seats. THE CLASS OF 2014!
Right before the enshrinees were announced one by one and made their way to the stage, they were seated right in front of our VIPs. Our fans could hear them prepping for their speeches and preparing to walk the Red Carpet. Once they all took the stage, the Pro Football Hall of Fame wasted no time in allowing the enshrinees to reveal their bronze busts and share their speeches.
In the order of Derrick Brooks, Claude Humphrey, Aeneas Williams, Walter Jones, Ray Guy, Andre Reed, and Michael Strahan, the enshrinees one-by-one went through the process.
Each was introduced by a very special person in their lives by video tribute, then the pair would take center stage as a team, reveal the bronze bust, and then the enshrinee was left center stage with an excited and emotional crowd in front of him.
Each speech was unqiue with the common theme of "you know me through football, but I want you to know me, the person." Each enshrinee became emotional in his unique way moving the audience along with him.
They shared stories of growing up and the motivation, lessons and work ethic instilled in them via their parents. They shared stories of their high school and college years, and told the fans how they came to play football. They shared the doubts and the fears. They touched on their NFL days and the people that made them better people and players. Appreciation was everywhere and there is no denying the humble attitude these great players have in common.
Hours of story telling, thank you's and I love you's later, the
Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony was coming to a close and it was time to make the short journey back to the hotels.
The Class of 2014 had reached football immortality!
Memorable Moments of the Night
Funniest Moment: Aeneas Williams talking about covering Michael Irvin in 1998: "If he went to the bathroom, I had to go flush it!"
Most Unique Moment: Walter Jones telling us to go follow her daughter on Instagram (her username is @hai_itswaleria by the way)
Most Historical Moment: Ray Guy on being the first punter inducted into the Hall: "Now the Hall of Fame has a complete team." (In his honor, 20 fellow punters attended the ceremony)
Most Touching Moment: Andre Reed sharing his memories of playing with Hall of Famer Jim Kelly and the relationship they shared: "12+83 always = 6." His speech brought standing ovations twice (Buffalo fans were very present), and the two even completed one last pass before taking their seats.
