home slider NFL resized 600The amount of people who tune in for the Super Bowl has only continued to grow in volume over the years. While most viewers watch the Super Bowl to see the game of all games played, a large amount of viewers tune in for the infamous halftime shows.

Over the years, we've seen some huge names play on the Pepsi Halftime Show stage and these performances have been nothing short of a spectacle.

While narrowing down a list of countless Super Bowl Halftime Shows is no easy task, I've narrowed down the list to the top five. So without further ado, I invite you to check out the top five Super Bowl Halftime Shows and share your favorites with me in the comments below!

5. Katy Perry at Super Bowl XLIX

Riding in on a bedazzled lion and then floating through the air as fireworks erupted over the stadium, Katy Perry falls at number five on the list. Perry's performance was unique and 100 percent true to her eclectic style. Featuring Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz, it was the most-watched Super Bowl Halftime Show in history with 118.5 million viewers!

4. Beyonce at Super Bowl XLVII

Her silhouette was lit on fire and she emerged from a cloud of smoke in true Beyonce fashion. If there were any doubts regarding Queen Bey's music royalty, they were silenced after her Super Bowl XLVII performance. From performing her hits such as "Crazy in Love," "Independent Woman," "Love on Top," and "Single Ladies," to her being joined by Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams from Destiny's Child for "Bootylicious," Beyonce's performance falls at number four on the countdown.

3. Prince at Super Bowl XLI

When Prince was announced to perform at Super Bowl XLI, fans went wild. The rocker performed hit numbers such as "1999," "Let's Go Crazy," and "Proud Mary," but when he exploded with "Purple Rain," the stadium lost it! The amount of fans attempting to hit his falsetto notes were priceless. Prince couldn't not make it on the list!

2. Madonna at Super Bowl Super Bowl XLVI

With enormous buzz already out regarding the release of the global phenomenon's upcoming album, Madonna's performance was expected to be a spectacle and she didn't disappoint. True to her style, Madonna entered the field covered in a gold robe as Roman soldiers marched in all around her. She pulled out all the stops during her 12 minute performance and was joined by LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., and Cee Lo Green. This music icon deserves her spot at number two on the list.

1. U2 at Super Bowl XXXVI

Topping our list at number one is U2's performance at Super Bowl XXXVI, less than five months after the tragedy of September 11. The band kicked-off the performance with hits from their Elevation tour, but what captured the hearts of America was their 9/11 tribute. U2 played "Where the Streets Have No Name" as a scrolling backdrop featured the names of all the victims who lost their lives in the attacks. As the song ended, Bono opened his jacket to reveal the stars and stripes in its lining as the audience erupted!
