Shining the Spotlight on Tim Brown

College: Notre Dame
Draft Year: 1988, First Round, Sixth Overall
Teams: Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Honors: Heisman Trophy Winner, All-Pro, All-AFC Nine-Time Pro Bowler

Entering the NFL in 1988, coming off a Heisman Trophy winning season with Notre Dame, Tim Brown was exactly what the LA Raiders needed. Brown spent majority of his career with the Raiders in Los Angeles and then Oakland, with the exception of 2004, when he played his final season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brown lead the NFL in kickoff returns - 41 for 1,098 yards - and earned himself first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors after his first season in the league.

The following year, Brown suffered an injury causing him to miss the season. Returning in 1990, he was used primarily as a punt returner and had a combined 103 catches over the next three seasons. Then, 1993, marked his "breakout" year, he had 80 catches for 1,180 yards and seven TDs.

He followed that season with two back-to-back 89 catch-seasons with 90 receptions recorded in 1996.

Brown's best season on record was in 1997, when he had 104 catches for 1,408 yards. He became the Raiders' all-time receiving leader and won the NFL receiving title. Not to mention, he set the team record of seven 100-yard games and tied the NFL mark of five games with 150-plus yards receiving.

It's for these reasons and more he was named All-AFC six times, was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1990s, and was a nine-time Pro Bowler.
