How to Qualify for The Masters Tournament®

    2016-Masters-Golf-Tournament

The Masters Tournament is one of four major professional golf tournaments in the world, cast among such other notable events as the U.S. Open, British Open and PGA championship.  It is held every year at one of the most exclusive golf courses in the world, Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.  The Masters is technically an invitational, but there’s no committee of elders meeting to determine the competitors!  The rules are very clear on what achievements qualify a golfer to receive the coveted Masters invitation.

One aspect of the Masters that sets it apart from the other professional golf majors is that on occasion, big names in professional golf are absent from the list of competitors while some small-time, unheard-of golfers receive an invitation.  The Masters invites a number of amateurs each year and typically enjoys a smaller field of 90-100 competitors.  This ensures that not only is the Masters an exclusive event, but it also keeps things challenging with fresh talent each year.

This year’s Masters champion, Jordan2016-Masters-Golf-Tournament Spieth, took home $1.8 million after his win at Augusta National.  If you’re looking for an extra source of income and think your golf game is up to snuff, you’ll have to put a lot of work in to be eligible for this legendary golf major.  The following are Augusta National Golf Club’s nineteen qualifications to receive an invitation to putt at the Masters.

2016-Masters-Golf-Tournament-TrophyAfter reading all that, does it blow your mind that Jordan Spieth made his way to the 2014 Masters at the young age of twenty?  Let’s take a look at the trail that led him to this world-class event.  Spieth won the U.S. Junior Amateur twice before playing college golf for the University of Texas.  He played in the 2012 U.S. Open, earning a spot as an alternate following the withdrawal of another golfer from the event.  Spieth officially went pro in 2012 during his sophomore year of college.  Upon winning the John Deere Classic in July 2013, Spieth achieved full status as a PGA Tour member, ranking 11thin the standings and granting him an invitation to each of the subsequent three majors.  The rest, as they say, is history!
