It’s common knowledge that the Super Bowl is rather expensive. Of course, it is – it’s the biggest football game of the year! So, how does a person afford to go? We have a few tips. Read below for a few ways you can budget for the Super Bowl.

How to Budget for the Super Bowl

    Plan Ahead

The biggest thing you can do is start planning now. My suggestion would be to make a Super Bowl fund. Each month leading up to the event, set aside a designated amount of your paycheck to go towards the fund. Now, keep in mind this could take months or even years, which is why it’s more important than ever to start saving now. Even if you plan to wait until 2020 or 2021 to attend the Super Bowl, it will be less taxing and stressful to go ahead and start putting money aside.

Also, make sure to book your hotel and airfare early as pricing can increase when you get too close to your travel dates.

Choose a Location that Makes Sense

As you know, the Super Bowl changes sites every year.

    Here are the future locations:

    2019: Atlanta, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Super Bowl 53

2020: South Florida, Hard Rock Stadium, Super Bowl 54

2021: Tampa Bay, Raymond James Stadium, Super Bowl 55

2022: Los Angeles, Los Angeles Stadium, Super Bowl 56

One of the ways you can save money is to choose a location that minimizes your travel costs. Airfare can be expensive, especially the closer you get to the dates you plan to fly. You can decrease potential travel costs by picking a Super Bowl location within driving distance, if possible, or that would have the lowest cost of airfare. Also, keep in mind hotel costs. Super Bowl city hotels will almost always increase their rates for Super Bowl weekend, but there are some cities that are much more budget-friendly than others.

Be Careful Purchasing A La Carte

When you purchase your ticket, hotel, airfare, transportation, food, beverages, etc. all separately, the cost can add up quickly. In many cases, you are better off bundling it all together. Various companies can provide ticket packages that are all-encompassing, and many times the packages include extra perks you may not be able to get otherwise.

    Be Reasonable About Seating Location

Ticket prices vary based on seating location. Upper level seats will generally cost you the least amount of money, while lower and club level will have a higher price point. You need to decide what is most important to you based on your budget. Can you afford the better seats? Or should you choose the budget-friendly option? If you are making the Super Bowl a once-in-a-lifetime type of experience, sometimes it’s worth splurging for the better seats. But this may require you to start planning even earlier or cut back on other expenses in order to add more to your Super Bowl fund. But honestly, regardless of where you choose to sit, your experience at the Super Bowl will be greater than you could ever imagine.
