Let’s take a moment and think back to the MotoGP Czech Grand Prix™ only a few weeks ago. That was the first race that the Spanish sensation, Marc Marquez, had failed to achieve his 10th consecutive win. However, this past Sunday at Silverstone provided the perfect setting for a return to the throne!
Silverstone marked the youngster’s 11th victory of the 2014 MotoGP season, and it also marked another countless battle with Jorge Lorenzo –don’t act like you’re shocked!
Majority of the race saw Marc Marquez leading, Lorenzo tailing Marquez, Valentino Rossi in third (who competed in his record 246th race and finished nearly nine seconds behind Marquez) and Dani Pedrosa pressuring Rossi. Even though the order stayed like that for much of the race, there were several occasions where the head-to-head duel between Marquez and Lorenzo got heated.
In the final laps, the dueling duo came together as Lorenzo zipped past the Spaniard only to be put back in his place. For Lorenzo, those little advantages are what win him grand’s prix, especially with Marquez always in the lead.
According to NYtimes.com, “After the race, Lorenzo, the 2010 and 2012 champion, appeared angered by the way Marquez forced his way into the lead on the 18th lap, with the two bikes, traveling at about 140 miles an hour, touching briefly as Marquez thrust through a narrow gap.”
Lower down the order, Dani Pedrosa continued his switching with Marquez, finishing fourth after halting the reigning champion's winning streak in Brno.
Pedrosa still remains second in the overall point standings, but Marquez’s lead now sits a large 89 points ahead as of his Sunday’s victory. Will anyone catch Marc Marquez? Will he be taken down again? Tell us what you think below!
As for the other riders on the grid, Scott Redding was the highest finisher of any Briton running, taking 10th while Cal Crutchlow came in at 12th. With only a few races left, other MotoGP™ contenders are fighting for bragging rights and fifth-plus place.
The top riders (Marquez, Rossi, Lorenzo and Pedrosa), pretty much have the top four spots to rally for, which makes the reminder of the season even more thrilling, if you ask me!
