The riders of the 2014 MotoGP Championship season summer break, but that doesn't mean we need to take a break as fans!

rider_6854It's time to dive into our next MotoGP driver feature, and we're taking a peek inside the career of Aleix Espargaro! This young Spaniard currently finds himself in sixth place in the 2014 standings with 77 points, far ahead of NGM Forward Racing teammate, Colin Edwards. This puts him just behind current leaders, Marc Marquez (225 points), Dani Pedrosa (148), Valentino Rossi (141 points), Andrea Dovizioso (99), and Jorge Lorenzo (97 points).

Espargaro might find himself with a ways to go to catch the leaders, but if anyone has the talent to catch the undefeated Marc Marquez, it's this guy.

Take a look at these fast facts about Espargaro and read on to learn how he paved a way for himself in the world of the MotoGP World Championship

Fast Facts.

Nationality: Spanish
Team: NGM Forward Racing

Let's Get Personal.

Espargaro grew up on bikes with the drive to race. Before his fourth birthday, his dad gave him his first bike and helped him grow his passion for racing. He was entered into the youth enduro series near his home in Granollers and he commonly entered various Catalonian championship races from ages 5-12.

It was then that he moved from road to dirt racing with a transition that was surprisingly easy. He began entering in more high profile races with tougher competition, finishing with great placement. With several big wins, such as the 125 Spanish National Championship in 2004, different bikes and new teams under his belt, Espargaro was ready to join the big leagues.

Joining the MotoGP World.

After his big win at the 125 Spanish National Championship, Espargaro was invited to join the World Championship for the 2005 season. He came out hot and secured 16th place in the overall standings. Halfway through the 2006 season, he moved up to 250 and had only continued to improve.

However, despite his improvement year over year, by 2009, Espargaro found himself on the outside without a regular ride. So in 2009, he began to ride as a substitute for the 250 Balatonring Team, showing impressive results.

Pramac noticed this development and signed a deal with Espargaro in MotoGP where he replaced Mika Kallio and Niccolo Canepa.

In 2011, Espargaro joined the Moto2 class and claimed his first World Championship podium at Catalunya! A unique facet about this year of racing for Espargaro is that he competed against his brother and fellow moto rider, Pol Espargaro.

The following year, he decided to return to the premier class with the Asper team and rode their ART bike. He continued on to win the CRT category with Asper.

In the 2013 season, Espargaro held several important finishes near the front of the MotoGP finishers, and so far in the 2014 season, he has looked consistent despite his switch to NGM Forward Racing.

Espargaro has proved he has the talent to compete with this elite class of riders and we find him at the point where he's waiting to make the perfect move. Keep an eye on this Spaniard because there's no telling what the future holds for him!
