Top 4 MotoGP™ Riders in 2016

    By Victoria Barnett

Who is ready for MotoGP to start heating up? We are about halfway through the season and the standings have stayed fairly consistent. The talented core four don't seem to be moving out of their ranks, but with plenty of racing left, anything can happen. After all, remember how 2015 ended? The competition is fierce between the top riders, making it all the more exciting. Let's take a look at these four riders and their success in MotoGP.

    Marc Marquez

You can really let the race results and stats speak for themselves when it comes to Marc Marquez. With about half the season underway, he's been dominating the standings. He sits at the top of the leaderboard with 181 points, giving him a 43 point lead over Jorge Lorenzo. Marquez held the Champion title in 2013 and 2014, and things are looking pretty good for another win in 2016.

    Jorge Lorenzo

World Champion Jorge Lorenzo has had a lot to live up to this season and he hasn't entirely disappointed. He's had some rocky finishes, but to hold the second place spot in the standings is to still be applauded. He is trailing Marquez by 43 points a solid gap  but with about half the season remaining, he could certainly close that gap. If anything, he needs to watch out for Valentino Rossi sneaking up behind him in the rankings.

    Valentino Rossi

Valentino Rossi is still hanging behind Jorge Lorenzo, but only barely. With 124 points, he keeps trying to close the distance to eventually pass Lorenzo, who has 138 points. Rossi was sitting pretty for most of the season last year until Lorenzo kicked it into high gear in the final race and caused Rossi to finish in second place by five points. Can he shake things up a bit and get out of the No. 3 spot?

    Dani Pedrosa

Dani Pedrosa is still holding on to the fourth spot with 105 points. This is likely a frustrating position for him to be in considering he finished fourth in both 2014 and 2015. He has yet to claim a premier-class title, and it's looking like this year might be out of reach. He still has a chance to land on the podium, but does he have what it takes? Time will tell.
