The MTV Video Music Awards makes a statement every year, without question. The 2016 show was last night and we’re still freaking out over Drake’s profession of love for Rihanna. The night was filled with killer fashion, stellar performances, and the glorious Beyoncé. There is always something special about music awards shows. Performers from all genres come together for a night of pure fun. While it’s an honor to be celebrated in front of the world for your craft, these shows are a great way to thank the fans.

We most certainly stayed up late on a school night to watch the performances —hello, it's Beyoncé and Rihanna. While they “slayed,” the internet was abuzz with high praise. Both performers proved why they are the queens of Tidal and the music industry. Beyoncé performed for 15 minutes and stole the show from everyone. She was honored by the #FinalFive aka, the USA Women’s Gymnastics team hot off their gold-medal win in Rio.

Rihanna has been at the top of the Billboard charts for over a decade now and was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award last night. We were fortunate enough to watch four performances from RiRi throughout the night spanning her entire career. While amazing, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen her perform at an awards show this year.

Past Performances

Every performance is a statement and while we enjoyed last night’s show, we’re still reliving the best performances from an early awards show, the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. While the VMAs are about the visual performances of artists, the BBMAs are about the spots they hold on the charts. This year’s show was packed with fantastic performances and we’re sharing our top five favorites!

  1. DNCE – Cake by the Ocean
  1. P!NK – Just Like Fire
  1. Justin Bieber – Company & Sorry
  1. Kesha – It Ain’t Me Babe
  1. Rihanna – Love on the Brain

See It All Live

The best part of each of these BBMA performances for us was watching each one the day before at the rehearsal. We had the opportunity to see each performer take the stage for a full dress rehearsal before the awards show. With VIP Access from QuintEvents, we not only attended the rehearsal, we also saw all the stars on the Red Carpet, enjoyed a backstage tour, and had killer seats for the main event!
