As 2018 comes to a conclusion, we're looking back on what was easily the best year in QuintEvents' history. Throughout our 68 total events in the calendar year, our guests were treated to some historic moments while also getting the best experience at the most exhilarating events in the world.
While there were countless moments in 2018 that we can't stop talking about, we decided to cut the list down to our 10 favorite moments of 2018. If you joined us for any of our events this year, let us know if you agree!
Justify Wins the Triple Crown
Event: 2018 Belmont Stakes
Why we love this moment: This is the most historic moment to occur at any of our events this year, and also the most important sporting moment of the year. By winning the 2018 Belmont Stakes®, Justify became the 13th Triple Crown™ winner in the history of thoroughbred racing. It's arguably the toughest accomplishment in all of American sports, and we got to witness history being made right in front of our eyes.
Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229
Event: UFC® 229
Why we love this moment: We bore witness to one of the most anticipated fights in UFC® history and undoubtedly the craziest aftermath that we've seen in the promotion's 25-year history. Khabib Nurmagomedov's lightweight title defense against a returning Conor McGregor stole all the headlines in the build up, and was only elevated by the elite level of smack talk that went back and forth between the two. The actual fight turned into a dominant performance for the reigning champion, but it still produced one of the UFC's most successful events ever. And while the commotion after the bout ended isn't something to be applauded, it did turn UFC 229 into an unforgettable night.
Daniel Cormier Becomes the Second Ever Double-Champ
Event: UFC® 226
Why we love this moment: Speaking of Conor McGregor, he gained some big company at UFC® 226 when Daniel Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic to become the second-ever UFC fighter to hold two belts at the same time. With a swift right hook against the defending heavyweight champion, Cormier stunned Miocic and finished him off with a flurry of punches on the ground. Cormier went on to become the first double-champion to defend one of his belts when he defeated Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 to retain his heavyweight strap.
Kimi Raikkonen Wins First Race Since 2013
Why we love this moment: Fans in Austin, Texas were in for a blast to the past when The Iceman returned at the 2018 United States Grand Prix. On a weekend where Lewis Hamilton could have claimed the World Championship with a top three finish, it was Kimi Raikkonen who stole the show by winning his first race in 113 starts.
Eagles Top Patriots in Super Bowl Shootout
Event: 2018 Super Bowl
Why we love this moment: In the second-highest scoring Super Bowl of all-time, the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots went blow for blow in a heavyweight fight for the ages. Led by backup quarterback Nick Foles, the Eagles beat the Patriots at their own game and played, truly, like they had nothing to lose. In a game featuring offensive explosions and the now-coveted 'Philly Special', the 2018 Super Bowl is one that will go down as a classic for years and years to come.
Patrick Reed Wins Green Jacket
Event: The Masters 2018
Why we love this moment: Golf's self-proclaimed bad boy set the world on fire when he claimed his first Green Jacket at The Masters® 2018. Coming into The Masters 2018 with just five PGA Tour wins, Reed wasn't necessarily an underdog, but we can't say we expected the performance that he would put on. The 27-year old who made his name originally in the Ryder Cup added a first major championship to his resume, and skyrocketed himself right into golfing's elite at a young age.
Barrett-Jackson Record Set
Why we love this moment: Barrett-Jackson® Scottsdale 2018 was a record-setting affair. The record-shattering event saw 1,721 vehicles sold that came across the auction block, totaling a massive sum of $106.8 million. Barrett-Jackson continued its trend of auctioning off certain cars for charity, with this year's total getting all the way up to $6 million. Not a bad haul to start a year off with!
Francesco Molinari Becomes First Italian Major Champion
Event: The Open Championship 2018
Why we love this moment: Italy finally got its major champion. Francesco Molinari entered the final round at Carnoustie Championship Course six-under par and strapped in for the most unpredictable final day of a major championship in 2018. Seven different golfers took the lead on Sunday, with Tiger Woods being the biggest name in the group, but Molinari remained steady and eventually put a clasp on the lead and delivered the Claret Jug back to his homeland.
Randy Moss Earns His Gold Jacket
Why we love this moment: The NFL has never seen a receiver like Randy Moss, and it may never see one like him again. The record-setting receiver finally got his due this year when he was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2018. At Enshrinement Week in Canton back in April, Moss put on his gold jacket for the first time and delivered one of the most memorable speeches in recent memory.
Bob Baffert Gets Fifth Derby win
Event: 2018 Kentucky Derby®
Why we love this moment: No modern horse trainer has the pedigree of Bob Baffert, and the legendary trainer only added to his resume at Churchill Downs® this year. Before the world knew Justify as the 13th Triple Crown winner in history, he was the steed that became Baffert's fifth ever Kentucky Derby winner.
