Who Was The Masters Golf Tournament® Champion of 1946? #MastersMonday

    By Jazzy Morgan

The Masters Tournament® has a long-lived legacy as one of golf’s most prestigious tournaments. Starting back in 1934 and progressing on today, Augusta National® has seen many champions walk onto its course.

These Green Jacket Champions are nothing short of legendary and as we count down to The Masters® 2018, we will uncover the story behind them all.

The Missouri Mortician – Herman Keiser

The Missouri native kicked off his career working as an assistant golf professional at a country club in Akron, Ohio and eventually became head professional at the very same golf club. Nicknamed The Missouri Mortician by his fellow golfers, Keiser only went on to win one major title, the 1946 Masters Tournament. However, he was part of the winning American Team during the Ryder Cup in 1947. Once retiring in the 1950’s, Keiser returned home to Akron where he purchased a driving range.

    1946 Masters Tournament

This was a very special year for The Masters®, as it has been a decade since its inauguration tournament and the first time the tournament had been played in four years due to World War II. It was an especially important year for Herman Keiser being the year he won his first and only major title at The Masters Golf Tournament®. Keiser inched ahead of Ben Hogan beating him out for the title by just one stroke!
